Leading psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Amen has bought the luxurious Newport Harbor complex, which includes an infinity pool and a secluded guest house.
He has been called America’s most popular psychiatrist with millions of followers on social media and 12 New York Times bestsellers, and now Dr. Daniel Amena has a house that reflects this success. The 69-year-old tycoon recently paid exactly $ 27 million for a beach villa in Newport Beach, California., not far from the headquarters of his clinic empire on the Costa Mesa.
Built on the speculation of a developer, the Tuscan-style house covers almost 9,500 square meters of living space and was completed in 2006. Later that year, it was sold to Fletcher automotive magnate Ted Jones Jr., Owner of the largest Mercedes-Benz dealer in the world by volume, and his second wife Kimberly sells.
After the Joneses divorced about 10 years ago, records indicate that Kimberly kept the luxurious marital home in Newport, although the beachfront property has been on the market for the past seven years at prices ranging from $30 to $32 million. At least two offers from buyers were accepted during this period, but both offers ultimately fell through before Dr. Amen moved forward.
The property is located on a one-third hectare plot, ideal for the Balboa Peninsula, and is managed by a separate garage for four cars with a lodge on the upper floor. From the street, visitors walking to the main house must travel along a closed walkway that runs under the inn before entering a quiet courtyard accented by a large central fountain flanked by lawns.
In addition, the main house has antique finishes, stone imported from Italy and a mixture of hardwood and limestone floors. There is a gourmet kitchen open to a bar seating area and a dining area by the fireplace, as well as a separate formal dining room overlooking the bay.
Other amenities are not limited to an upstairs master retreat with double baths and private double terraces, a cinema for 10 lucky moviegoers and a backyard with an infinity pool and two old olive trees. In addition to a wine cellar, the house also has an underground wine room with space for entertainment. But perhaps the most remarkable features of the property are the panoramic views of the coast and a huge private jetty from which two 60-foot yachts can dock.
In his 40-year career in psychiatry, Dr. Amen has built up a mostly profitable business, which today includes numerous books, dietary supplements, lectures, television appearances and more than 200 employees. He recently appeared on an episode of The Kardashians and is perhaps best known for his use of SPECT imaging for diagnostic purposes. The clinics in Los Angeles performed about 200,000 of these $3,500 brain scans over 30 years.
