ISL transfers: Punjab sign Greek defender, Chennaiyin selects English defender to meet foreign quota

The former Greek international is Punjab’s sixth and last foreigner this season, in which they were promoted from the I-League to the ISL.

Punjab FC has signed Greek defender Dimitrios Chatziisaias for the 2023/24 Indian Super League season, who has experience in clubs in Greece, Turkey and Belgium.

According to transfermarket.in , its market value is Rs 3.6 crore. The last assignment of the 30-year-old player was at the Greek club Atromitos, where he played 55 matches and scored one goal in two seasons.

The former Greek international is Punjab’s sixth and last foreigner this season, in which they were promoted from the I-League to the ISL.

Punjab football director Nikolaos Topoliatis said Dimitrios’ experience will help to consolidate their defense.

Chennaiyin gets Edwards

Two-time champion Chennaiyin FC has announced that he has signed defender Ryan Edwards to fulfill his international quota.

It has a market value of Rs 2.4 crore, according to transfermarket.in .

Edwards played 112 games and scored eight goals for Scottish club Dundee United in three seasons, including 92 international matches in the Scottish First Division.

In the middle of the 2021/22 season, he became the captain of Dundee.

He led the team to fourth place in the Scottish Premier League and helped the team qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League qualification, leading the team 53 times in all competitions.

Edwards described his move as an “exciting challenge,” while CFL coach Owen Coyle said he was delighted with his services as he had plenty of offers.

Coyle added that his leadership qualities will be useful for the team and that he is an “excellent defender”.
