Timberlake will take on the role of Chuck Barris, the former host of the Gong show and the man who created the game shows The Newlywed Game and The Dating Game in the 60s and 70s, in an hour-long biographical drama series for Apple TV +. Barris explained in his 1984 memoir that the shows were all a cover for his actual job as a CIA assassin and that his job was to eliminate threats.
Although he later admitted that he made up the story, and the CIA rejected his accusations, the memoirs still remain a mystery, which Apple decided to bring to the small screen. The memoir has since been adapted into a feature film of the same name, directed by George Clooney and starring Sam Rockwell as Barris, in 2002.
David Hollander and Jon Worley are acting as showrunners, Worley is adapting the script. No other cast members were announced other than Timberlake. The untitled project has been in the development phase since 2021 and further updates are expected.
