Looking through the manga again, in volume 3 we see some excerpts published by Eiichirô Oda, in which he shows sketches of his characters and tells how the process of creating his great work was.
In one of the illustrations, the mangaka shows what the clown buggy’s minions would look like, and to everyone’s surprise, we find among them the swordsman Zoro . You can take a look at the picture below.
A few pages later, Oda himself explains the sketches and reveals that Zoro would initially be part of Buggy’s band, The Clown, before he thought it over again and made him one of the main protagonists of One Piece.
