Sandy Alcantara has Tommy John surgery and will miss next year

Sandy Alcantara underwent surgery on Friday and will miss the entire 2024 season of the Miami Marlins, as he expressed on his social networks.

Alcantara finished the campaign with a record of 7-12 and an ERA of 4.14, numbers below the standards of the Dominican, who won the National League Cy Young Award in the 2022 season.

The 28-year-old right-hander finished his work in September.23 and missed the Marlins’ wildcard game against the Philadelphia Phillies, and last Wednesday, when the Miami team was eliminated, he told reporters he had an important decision to make about his future.

Alcantara was initially diagnosed with forearm problems and was placed on the 15-day injury list for the first time in his career on September 6, after playing the 94th place of his outing on September 3 against the Washington Nationals
