On the rise in streaming, the American feature film was a huge success among the public and its sequel is scheduled to premiere in 2024 in theaters, as well as a spin-off.
The film Sonic 2 , released in 2022, arrived in the Netflix catalog on Sunday (1st) and is already one of the platform’s highlights, as it occupies second position in the Top 10 streaming. Directed by Jeff Fowler, the film is based on the video game series launched by Sega in 1992 and the plot follows, once again, the title character trying to save everyone from the great villain Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey).
Lasting two hours, the feature film has a script written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is also worth remembering that a third feature film in the franchise is scheduled to premiere in 2024, in addition to a spin-off, titled Knuckles, which is scheduled to premiere at the end of 2023. Sonic 2 plot
The plot follows the famous blue hedgehog Sonic (Ben Schwartz), eight months after defeating the terrible Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Trying to establish himself in Green Hills to be a true hero, the character comes across the villain again, only now accompanied by a new sidekick, Knuckles (Idris Elba). Together, the two plan to find an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. And to avoid this, Sonic will have to team up with Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and find the precious stone first.

With narration by Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) as the title character and Jim Carrey ( The Truman Show ) playing the villain Dr. Robotnik, the cast of Sonic 2 also brings together big names in cinema, such as James Marsden ( Jury Duty ) playing Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter (My Sister Kills) giving life to Maddie Wachowski, Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds) as Randall’s interpreter, Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Cars) in the role of Tails and Idris Elba (Luther: Nightfall ) as Knuckles.

Repercussion
On the rise among Netflix subscribers, the film Sonic 2 was a huge success among the public after its debut in theaters, having a box office gross of more than US$405 million, becoming one of the biggest blockbusters of 2022 .
The positive performance of the film can still be seen on the main aggregators, such as IMDb, where it has a score of 6.5, based on 80 thousand considerations. On Rotten Tomatoes , Jeff Fowler’s work received 69% approval from critics and 96% from the general public. According to the site’s consensus, “it’s not as fun as the little blue boy’s best games, but if you liked the first film, Sonic 2 serves as an acceptable sequel.”
