The details of the uniform of Princess Leonor in her flag oath and which King Felipe also wore

Princess Leonor took the oath of the flag this Saturday, October 7, together with the other classmates of the General Military Academy of Zaragoza and in front of the attentive eyes of her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, who were moved to see their daughter.

The family had a nice moment and the king, analyzing the troops by protocol, certainly remembered when he was on the other side, 38 years ago, the cadet who swore the flag and wore the same uniform that his daughter wore today. And it’s the general’s uniform. The beautiful suit, as it is commonly called, has a story in every detail that makes it up.

It is a very special uniform since it was introduced in the year King Felipe VI swore the flag in 1985 . It is known as the ‘historical uniform’ because, despite its Moderna design, it follows the pattern of uniforms introduced in 1882 when King Alfonso XII founded the General Military Academy.

The uniform consists of burgundy trousers, a dark blue coat with double gold buttons and details in the same tone as the trousers, a cap or a Teresian, covered with feathers and white gloves . This last detail is shared on all fully dressed army uniforms : in white and sewn with 3 veins on the back.
