Mohammedan Sporting defeated Kidderpore on Super 6 debut; 10-man DHFC surprises Mohun Bagan

Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) started their CFL Super Six campaign strongly with a 5-0 win over Kidderpore FC, but Mohun Bagan SG ended their group commitments with a loss to Diamond Harbour FC (DHFC) on Sunday.

Both Mohun Bagan and Kalighat MS scored 24 points each in 12 matches, but the greens and browns made it to the championship stage thanks to a better scoring record.

Mohammedan Sporting and DHFC took the first two places in Group A with 29 points each, ahead of Mohun Bagan.

East Bengal (30 points), Bhawanipore SC (27) and Kidderpore (25) are the other three teams that have advanced from Group B and completed the Super Six lineup.

The opening match of the Super Six between Mohammedan Sporting and Kidderpore FC became a charity match in honor of the supporter of the black and white team, Md Sirajuddin, who died of a cardiac arrest while playing his team in group A on August 31

. via a cheque of Rs 2 lakh for Sirajuddin’s son, while the Indian Football Federation supported his family with a contribution of Rs 1.5 lakh. Mohammedan sports and East Bengal clubs also contributed Rs 1 Lakh each in this regard.

However, Mohammedan Sporting fired a warning shot at the title rival with offensive football. Kidderpore stayed in the race until the last seconds of the first half, but as soon as Wahengham Angousana opened the floodgates nine minutes after extra time, there was no turning back for the home team at the Mohammedan sports ground.
Bikash Singh (61st), Samuel Lalmunpuia (72nd) and David Lahlansanga (77th, 79th) did the job in style in the second half.

DHFC also defeated Mohammedan Sporting earlier in the competition. However, the victory over Mohun Bagan in

Naihati was quite impressive for the Kibu Vicuna team, as they played about 70 minutes with 10 players after Ayon Mondal’s red card in the 35th minute.

Supriya Pandit scored for DHFC in the very first minute of the match, started the move near the opponent’s midfield and passed some opponents before defeating goalkeeper Debnath Mondal with a powerful kick at the entrance of the area.
